OurFuture is an interactive website which brings together projects and activities that benefit New Zealand's natural environment and resources. OurFuture is aimed at making connections between research and action and between people and projects.

Who is behind OurFuture?

OurFuture is coordinated and funded by the Crown Research Institute, Landcare Research, in partnership with a range of organisations and groups who contribute their stories to the site. We don’t publish commercial material. For more information on appropriate content check our terms and conditions.

The OurFuture website was developed by Landcare Research and Swirling World.

Join us

There is a simple process to becoming an OurFuture partner and adding your stories.

1. You fill in the Contact us form
2. We then contact you and send you a contributor agreement form to complete
3. We will establish:
   • An OurFuture account for your group/organization and send you the login details
   • Your own organization web page that will showcase all the stories you contribute on an interactive map (see Landcare Research’s page for an example)
   To do this we need from you:
   • The name and email of the person in your group who will take the lead in getting your stories loaded
   • Your logo
   • A short introduction to your organisation (about 50 words)
   • Your website address if you have one
4. We will then send your lead person an email form with login details. The lead person can then login and start loading your stories. The step-by-step instructions for loading stories are provided on the OurFuture website.

Managing your stories

Once you are signed up, you can start writing stories, adding images, embedding videos and making maps. You can also create story collections. Collections provide a way to bundle individual stories into a cohesive package based on a particular theme (e.g., ‘Ecosystem research’, ‘Coastal restoration projects’, ‘Northland schools environmental projects’). Each collection has its own page and interactive map and may include stories from any contributing organisation.

We will ask you to nominate one (or more) people to be your organisation’s administrator(s).

Administrators look after your group/organisation’s content and contributors. Administrators can remove any piece of content your organisation has loaded. You may choose to have a small number of administrators who are responsible for loading all your group/organisation’s content on to the OurFuture website. Alternatively, your administrator may create multiple contributor accounts for other people in the organisation.

Contributors are people in your organisation who write stories and put them up on OurFuture. Contributors are unable to edit other website content created by another user. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend you nominate a small number of administrators and make the rest of your people contributors.

Your organisation may decide to enable contributor content to become visible on OurFuture immediately. Alternatively, you can require that stories first be reviewed by an administrator.
